Code.
A computer reads ones and zeros, but behind the code is a human heart building projects
Code for Singapore
is a community-led organization, building tech projects for social good.
We work on various areas such as Elderly, Environment, Migrant Workers to name a few.
Our community is made up of tech-enthusiasts, developers, programmers, academics across society with the common goal of doing good.
Projects
“Technology is a useful servant, but a dangerous master”
Christian Lous Lange
We believe that technology is a good enabler to magnify social impact, so our approach to a problem is through the lens of technology.

Solution
Giving the opportunity for the elderly to contribute their wisdom to the community. This has a positive impact on the mental health of the elderly.Giving the community a chance to seek advice from elderly.
Help Needed
- Community Partners – user testing with elderly community
- Schools/College/Uni – user testing with youths/young adults
- Backend Dev – maintenance, updates, improvements

MESA
Target Audience:
Isolated Elderly
Mission:
Through the use of devices, provide relevant alerts to Caregivers so that in the event of accidents, or scheduled medication intake, they will be notified.
Problem
- In 2015, more than 1 in 2 Singaporeans aged 60 years and above reported being lonely
- Small number of caregivers/volunteers to care after large number of elderly in Singapore
Solution
To build non-invasive devices within the elderly home that can track movements or a fall, and also a tracking device to keep track of medication intake of the elderly.
Help Needed
- Community Partners – user testing with elderly
- Developers – Python, C++
- Engineers – upgrade/improve on prototype which is large and clunky

Wiser
Target Audience:
Isolated Elderly
Mission:
Enable interaction and monitoring without the need of social workers’ physical presence.
Problem
- Many elderlies are suffering from isolation. This issue’s projected to increase as SG’s population ages. With a limited number of social workers, many might not receive quality social support on time, or at all.
Solution
Build a multipurpose app that promotes movement, communication, socialization and alerts for both Seniors and Caretakers
- Movement/Social – Simple arm shaker game with PvP option
- Communication/Social – build in walkie talkie
- Alerts – Reminders and SOS button
- Social – Friends list within location

RecyclingBeans
Target Audience:
Environment (Waste Reduction)
Mission:
To collect real time data of trash within recycle bins so that the community will better understand behaviors and patterns and better shape policies and habits for a better environment
Problem
- Singapore has limited land and a dense population which has an impact of waste and the environment
- Reduce waste-to-landfill per capita per day by 30 per cent by 2030
Solution
Build sensors within trash collection points to track data such as frequency, weight, type, usage to generate meaningful realtime data for better understanding.

Mission:
To build a system that provides personalized, detailed water usage to households to advocate for good water saving habits.
Problem
- Singapore is projected to be one of the most water-stressed country in the world by 2040
- Given the high water consumption among Singaporean households, how can we raise awareness of one’s water consumption habits and encourage sustainable water consumption
Solution
Build localized sensors at each water point within the household that allows tracking of usage by time, date, location and budget
Help Needed
- Individuals – Willing to try out set up in own household
- Developers – Python, C++
- Engineers – upgrade/improve on prototype which is large and clunky

To locate heavy build up of trash along the river and be able to direct or collect trash to specified location
Problem
- After heavy rainfall trash from the streets and overflowed trash bins gets washed down into the culverts — eventually into the Singapore River
Solution
With the use of sensors, build a flotation device that can maneuver, give location, recognise and capture or direct trash to specific locations for easy clean up.
